The central theme of Warhammer Online revolves around the continual worldwide conflict most Warhammer settings are well known for, and almost every aspect of the game will be geared towards omnipresent, constant war. Mythic will be using their trademark Realm vs. Realm PvP system in Warhammer Online, which is the same system used in Dark Age of Camelot. Although not officially announced, the playable races are expected to be as follows : Empire, Dwarfs, High Elves, Dark Elves, Orcs & Goblins and Chaos. These races will form the two major alliances in the game.
Warhammer Online contains many unique, new features. This includes the RvR combat system and large degree of character customisation.
Characters
Your character and other players in Warhammer Online change as they grow in level and fight more battles. For example, Dwarf beards grow longer, Orcs become larger and darker skinned. Players can cover themselves in trophies like heads. An Orc player who veteran of many battles could have many Dwarf heads on him. Other further customisation is that you can gain Player Tactics: Powers you change before battle and Morale Skills: Options during battle that become more powerful as the battle favours you.
Realm Vs Realm
Warhammer Online features 'next generation' Realm Vs Realm or RvR combat. This takes place on 3 different 'fronts', outlined slightly above with the races. Dwarfs Vs Greenskins, Empire Vs Chaos and finally High Elves Vs Dark Elves are how they pan out. There are Four levels of RvR Combat, including Skirmishs(No clear information at present), Battlefields(Object driven battles in the game world), Scenarios(instanced, point based battles Vs NPC's) and Campaigns(Invading enemy lands and Capital Cities). RvR includes both PvP combat and PvE quests so that you can assist your side.
Warhammer Online will have collision detection turned on but only to enemy targets. This means that you will be able to 'walk through' friendly players and NPC’s but will be unable to walk through enemy targets. This feature will hopefully enhance the role heavily armored players known as tanks play as it will make them far more efficient at holding choke points and allow them to protect weaker players in their group such as healers and casters.
